Entering the HP Magic at LIVING IN THEORY

I am participating in the HP Magic Giveaway today over at Living in Theory for a glorious package of more than $6000.00 in HP and Windows products (you can see details and enter too by following the links). For my entry I’d like to share a snip-it of what I would do with part of the package without getting too sappy!!!
First I will answer a quick question asked; what am I doing to impact others lives? I’m going to school at 34 after I dropped out at age 16. I want my children to see that I’m trying and then maybe (well, not maybe, it has been showing) my kids will see that it doesn’t matter what age you are, as long as you do the best you can anytime. My kids see that I’m trying and it is instilling something grand in them. The see the struggles we face as I am studying full time to earn my degree in Computer Science with a teaching degree as a secondary. My kids are wonderful children and I know that my hard work now will instill much. What we go through now will make them stronger and more compassionate towards others as they too become older.
As for the plans with the prize package: I have two wonderful families I will be surprising this Christmas (should I win of course). They have both gone far and beyond their calling to help my family through some very rough times (physically, financially and emotionally) and have never asked anything in return. One of the family’s is gifted with four of their own children (the other has two) and yet they have taken the shirt off their backs to ensure that we are okay, that we have everything we need to get through the day. They have taken us to appointments, grocery shopping and then some. We are actually borrowing a car from Terry and his wife because we lost our only car about eight months ago. These are wonderful families and I couldn’t think of anyone more deserving of some spoiling than them.
It’s not every day that a person gets a chance to “freely” express their gratitude towards another through gifts of such magnitude. I would give anything for the chance to experience what it feels like to “have” the opportunity to give back to another. Seriously, our finances have been that limited.
I’m not great at expressing myself through words nor am I any better at writing, but my thoughts are as real as this giveaway. I would be more than tickled to win this and then turn around and surprise these families with such awesome gifts.
We (for many years) have always been the family that never comes to a party with a gift; we are the family that never has the money to bring a dish to the potluck. Yes, as embarrassing as that is we just can’t afford it. What an awesome feeling it would be to actually be able to do that this year.
So here’s the deal; if I were the lucky winner of this prize package I would do my absolute best to ensure that these families were taken care of. Each family would get a notebook computer, a Windows office 2007 license and a Kun fu Panda movie. Myself personally, well I would definitely use the all in one printer because I am going to school online and (especially) need the scanner. We do have an awesome printer already (an Epson R-320 Photo printer) but it doesn’t have everything I need so I would give this printer (still in great shape) to another person. I would refurbish our old computer and donate that to our local ministry service that helps the homeless learn how to type and search the internet. I would then keep the HP Smart touch for our family as well as a movie. Not to be selfish or anything, but I have been wanting and praying for a mini so I would indulge in a small gift for myself (that and because my daughter sees a physiologist every two weeks and this would be so cool to have with me…I’d be able to continue to work on my studies while I’m waiting for my daughters appointment to finish up).
If I may; my idea of “paying it forward” or sharing the magic would be to give to individuals in the same or (if not) worse situation than me and my family. You see, although giving to a ‘charity’ or other local ‘organization’ would be fantastic; I feel comfortable knowing that they are being helped through other forms and other means. Most people fail to see that these places are getting help from the government or other local contributors, the community and small business that can afford to give larger amounts of assistance…these places don’t need as much help as a family stuck in limbo financially. It’s the people or families that make too much to qualify for assistance, but far too little to get by on their own. The people that work their butts off to pay their monthly bills yet not enough to take their kids to the movies or out to dinner or any of the small enjoyments that more stable family’s can afford to do. These are the people that I think should be helped because they fall through the cracks and end up working their whole lives to pay their bills with little to no reward. They are living their days to make ends meet. These are the people that could have a little lift in their lives (a boost in spirit). These are the people that would appreciate the fact that they are not forgotten. These are the people I plan on helping…those are my thoughts. How about you?

Wishes are being granted as we speak

Sit on Santa’s lap experience, ha-ha, maybe not from your home but right now you can sit on Santa’s lap “virtually”. The Got a Wish Sweeepstakes is giving 29 people (one a day for each day of the contest) a chance at getting their “naughty” or “nice” fingers on some pretty sweet cash ($500.00). At the end of each day 1 person is randomly selected and contacted with details on claiming the prize.
When I went to sit on Santa’s lap this afternoon I had so much. You are asked to upload a picture of yourself along with giving them your name. Once that’s done you push the submit button and BANG, Santa begins talking to you and your picture is on the table in their CEIVA Digital Photo Frame. That Photo Frame is pretty cool too (wouldn’t mind having that). The whole sweepstake entry was pretty cute. They had the whole bit going on with the acting. It even had the “lawyer” come out and chat about the rules and regulations of the contest. You know, the regular stuff: Must be 18 years of age or older to enter, photo must be of the submitter, photo must not contain inappropriate content or be a copyrighted image and must be a resident of the United States and/or Washington D.C. (found that to be cute too).

The easy way is Layaway for this Holiday season

Yes, I understand that this is out of the norm for me as it is not a post about giveaways, but I’m sure you’ll understand why in a second.
Do you remember how, in the past, there was such a thing as a “lay-a-way” and then for some reason everyone at the same time did away with the Lay-a-way system? I remember because last year was a very tough year for us and we ended up having very few presents for the kids as a result. Now, had there been a lay-a-way, we would have never been in this predicament. Anyways, this year I’m doing it the way I should have done last year (and the year before that, and the year before that, and…well, you get the idea).
I went online just a little while ago and picked out some pretty swift items for my husband, my son and my two girls. My husband’s an avid hunter/fisherman so one would only assume that he’d get a kick out of this Chicago Cutlery knife set (since he’ll be the one cooking up some fish after a busy day catching them) as well as some cool Craftsman coasters (you know…so he can have a drink while preparing our lovely meal); For my son, well, let’s just say that he goes insane for Southpole Jeans (what, the boys gotta have some nice jeans doesn’t he?); and I couldn’t forget my girls so I found some really cool Sleep ware.
So, I guess you’re wondering what this is all about…LAY-A-WAY!!!! Layaways are the bestest thing ever and who could pass this up? Even though you don’t have all of the money up front, you can make a payment of $15.00 or 15% and then continue to pay until you’re done…at least you don’t have to worry about the dreaded feeling of missing out on all those cool gifts you “could have” had.
