Frank Sinatra-MY WAY 40th Anniversary Edition-review

I was lucky enough to indulge my listening this weekend with Frank Sinatra. It’s a past time that I enjoy going back to and boy was I taken there. With songs like “I’ve got you under my skin” and “New York New York” I couldn’t help but smile, sing along and dance around the house with my girls.

The great news is that on May 5th you were finally able to purchase new copies of this spectacular “My Way 40th Anniversary Edition here. You can still head over to the official Frank Sinatra site and listen and read more. I honestly think that this would make a perfect “Last minute” Mother’s Day gift for that special someone in your life.

I can hardly believe it’s been that long since Frank Sinatra moved us with his music; can you?  Do you have any favorites? Mine will always be “New York New York”…

DID YOU KNOW that Frank Sinatra appeared in 58 movies, winning an Oscar for his performance as Maggio, the doomed G.I. in “From Here to Eternity” (1953)?  He played everything from a shy sailor in “Anchors Aweigh” (1945) to a tough Army investigator in “The Manchurian Candidate” (1962), a tormented drug addict in “The Man With the Golden Arm” (1955) and a daring prisoner of war in “Von Ryan’s Express” (1965)…I guess I was too young to remember, but I was amazed to read his bio, his career achievements (Gold and Platinum Awards) and his Filming career. I knew of his many songs as my parents played them on many occasions, but I had no idea how amazing Frank Sinatra was (embarrassed)…

Here’s a tad-bit of information for you die hard Sinatra Fans:

My Way 40th Anniversary Edition, which includes two previously unreleased tracks and the never-before-available Live At The Meadowlands, the legendary 1986 live album that spotlights Sinatra back in his New Jersey stomping grounds, wooing a sold-out crowd.

Produced by Don Costa and Sonny Burke, My Way was released in March 1969 and features a varied collection of contemporary pop songs, including Simon and Garfunkel’s “Mrs. Robinson,” The Beatles’ “Yesterday,” Ray Charles’ “Hallelujah I Love Her So,” and the iconic title track, “My Way,” which would become his career theme song.  The song occupies a special place in popular music, influencing generations of musicians, from Elvis Presley to the Sex Pistols, both of whom conspicuously recorded their own versions. Famous Sinatraphile Bono, who contributes the My Way 40th Anniversary Edition liner notes, wrote of the song, “..[it's] a boast – more kiss-off than send-off – embodying all the machismo a man can muster about the mistakes he’s made on the way from here to everywhere.” Also included are two unreleased tracks: Stevie Wonder’s classic “For Once In My Life, recorded on August 13, 1969 for the Sinatra television special, and a live version of “My Way,” recorded on October 24, 1987, at Reunion Arena in Dallas.

Live At The Meadowlands, recorded March 14, 1986, features 18 previously unreleased tracks. For this now-legendary hometown show, Sinatra showcased songs from every phase of his stellar career, mixing standbys such as “One For My Baby,” “You Make Me Feel So Young,” and “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” with late-period classics such as “L.A. Is My Lady” and “Theme From New York, New York.”  The long-anticipated release of Live At The Meadowlands holds special significance among Sinatra fans as it’s one of the most sought-after and hard-to-find concert recordings of his career.  Hank Cattaneo, Sinatra’s long time production manager and confidante, wrote the set’s liner notes.
