Novel/ Biography
By: Alison Larkin
This novel is highly recommended for anyone who’s ever been adopted or knows someone who has; to those with a curiosity large enough to open doors within their past in hopes that their future is brighter than they imagined. Follow Pippa as she shares her heartfelt look on issues of identity, heredity and self-acceptance. Pippa’s compelling character will capture your heart
In this novel, like the author, Pippa is adopted into a loving English family. She enjoys life as any normal English girl would. She loves her parents and her sister, but feels out of place. The urgency to unlock the doors to her past and present will have you hooked. For some, this comedic and inspiring story will entice you to open new chapters in your own life.
About the Author:
Adopted at birth in Washington, D.C. by British parents and raised in England and Africa. After graduating from London University and the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art, she appeared in classical British theatre. Then she found her birth mother in Tennessee, moved to New York and became a stand-up comic. Within three years she was put under studio development contract by Jim Henson Productions, ABC and CBS, to star in and co-write her own sitcom. She has appeared on Broadway and her wide range of character voices can be heard in movies and cartoons from work by Robert Altman to The Wonderpets. Her internationally acclaimed one-woman show, The English American, was a highlight of the London Comedy Festival and has been seen in concert performance across the United States. She lives in Northern New Jersey with her husband and two children.

Education/Technology
By: Curtis J. Bonk
As an online student at TUI, I found comfort in reading this book. This educational extension of Tom Friedman’s book, The World is Flat, which focuses on social and economic flatteners, changing organizational structures and business practices, The World Is Open explores how technology offers new hope for educating everyone on this planet…and then some.
This is an amazing book (a sort of technology “bible” so to speak) filled with information about technology’s impact on learning in the 21st century. You’ll find out about free and open software (where to find it and how to use it), insights on interactive videoconferencing, finding online dictionaries, massive multiplayer online gaming (for playtime) and much, much more. This WE-ALL-LEARN model will give you an all inclusive look into how technology has transformed educational opportunities for learners, educators and newbie’s; Learning has never been easier.
About the Author:
The World Is Open is the product of more than two decades of research on e-learning, blended learning and technology in education. Dr. Bonk is a professor of Instructional systems Technology at the school of education at Indiana University. He is Founder and President of Survey Share and Course Share and a former educational psychologist. He has authored and coauthored numerous books on education, including Handbook of Blended Learning, Empowering Online Learning and Electronic Collaborators.
