Based on an idea by Jeffrey Deaver
I, somehow, vaguely remember as a child in school, starting a story with 1 sentence then passing it back to the person behind me. Who from there would add another corresponding sentence until it reached every kids in class. The teacher would then pick it up and read the wild concoction we all came up with as a whole. It was complete and utter nonsense. It was good for a few laughs and childhood memories but who’d have thought that it could be made into something completely understandable and worthy of really sitting down to read.
Enter Jeffery Deaver and his ingenious idea of gathering more than a dozen world known writers to compose such a novel. I mean-two actually. In WATCHLIST there are two stories, THE CHOPIN MANUSCRIPT and THE COPPER BRACELET. I was introduced to a character by the name of Harry Middleton and his noble cause of hunting down war criminals, and such, to bring them to justice. Well that was only his former career…but let me tell you, I guess when you do something like that for so long, it tends to follow you where ever you go.
What I can say about this book (and the way it was written) is that it flowed so fluid-like that I was almost unaware that every chapter had been written by a completely different author. This is what great writing is all about. It WOWed me; that even though every author is different, everything came together flawlessly. I was so impressed with the stories that I am totally looking forward to more Harry Middleton novels be it by the nearly two dozen authors that made this compilation or by Jeffery Deaver himself.
OK-OK. Now for the synopsis from the back cover of the book:
From International Thriller Writers, comes Watchlist: two powerful novellas featuring the same thrilling cast of characters in one major suspenseful package. The Chopin Manuscript and The Copper Bracelet are collaborations of some of the world’s greatest thriller writers including Lee Child, Joseph Finder, Lisa Scottoline, and Jeffery Deaver, who conceived the characters and set the plots in motion. The other authors each wrote a chapter and Deaver the completed what he started, bringing both novellas to their startling conclusions.
In the first novella, The Chopin Manuscript, former war crimes investigator Harold Middleton possesses a previously unknown score by Frederic Chopin. But he is unaware that, locked within its handwritten notes, lies a secret that now threatens the lives of thousands of Americans. As he races from Poland to American to uncover the mystery of the manuscript, Middleton will be accused of murder, pursued by federal agents, and targeted by assassins. But the greatest threat will come from a shadowy figure from the past: the man only know as Faust.
Harold Middleton returns in The Copper Bracelet— the explosive sequel to The Chopin Manuscript—as he’s drawn into and international terrors plot that threatens to send India and Pakistan into full-scale nuclear war. Careening from Nice to London and Moscow to Kashmir to prevent nuclear disaster, Middleton is unaware that his prey has changed and that the act of terror is far more diabolical than he knows. Will he discover the identity of the Scorpion in time to halt an event that will pit the United States, China, and Russia against each other at the brink of World War III?
YEAH!!!! That’s what I’m talking about. These brilliant writers sent me globetrotting for the entire length of the book. I followed them everywhere with all the twists that each one threw in. I am in total awe of how so many could produce such an insane journey. And OMG!!! The twist in the 1st novella…ughhhh…I can’t say what it was because it would destroy the suspense for you, but UGHHHH…. If it were me, man oh man the pain I’d have put him through for doing that to me. Keep that in mind when you’re going through The Chopin Manuscript. Go get it as soon as it comes out and read it, gift it, whatever you want with it. But do not deny yourself a GREAT couple of stories and the new character Harry Middleton.
And to Mr. Jeffery Deaver, I’m waiting for the next installment with Harold Middleton. So get to writing, I’ll be keeping an eye out for the next one.

My all-time favorite book is Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged! But for lighter reading, I love anything in the Chicken Soup for the soul series!
