Books that Inspire Change, Health and Wellness & a Giveaway Too

GIVEAWAY CLOSED: Winners have been drawn using random.org.

Thanks to everyone who enterd. If you didn’t win, don’t fret I’ve always got giveaways going on. Good luck!

I’ve always enjoyed reading, yet, I’ve never had a particular reading preference…well, I do, but I’m torn between a few genres of choice?

I’ll read just about anything that’s put in front of me, most of the time I’m just thrilled when I manage to embark on some time to read. Over the years I’ve found that I enjoy reading best in the evenings when the kids have been put to bed and the only sound in the house is that of a faint chain clicking against the light fixture on my ceiling fan.

Most of the time, though, I’m drawn to and end up reading books that inspire me to change; books that, in the end, give me reason to do something that will help better my life. Yes, I’m talking about self-help, health and wellness, inspirational books. I’ll have to admit- I’m a self-help junkie. I’m addicted to reading books with words of encouragement. I love reading books that will not only help me maintain a better life at home, but at work too. Hints the reason I’m very happy to be sharing two special books I’ve read this week.

In no order of importance or preference (they’re both great!)

do it or age quickly

Have you ever been somewhere and seen an old friend from high school and thought, “dang- life’s been rough on him/her”? Have you ever looked at yourself and said, “I’m getting old”, yet you’re only in your 30’s or 40’s? The sad thing is; life’s stresses can bring you down. It can age you quicker than fine wine and sometimes we don’t notice the effects until we stop and take a close look at ourselves.

In this book, JB Bern’s helps manipulate the aging process by simply sharing his techniques and practices. Now in his 40’s; you’d never know it because he combines Western knowledge with traditional Eastern wisdom on aging along with his expertise in Martial arts and personal training. Berns has created a program that will help keep you looking younger, feeling younger and restore vivacity.

In reading this book; you’ll learn how to improve energy flow as you sleep, breath your way to a sharper mind, achieve a firm body without lifting a single weight, keep a healthy hairline without plugs or drugs, maintain gorgeous skin the ancient Chinese way, promote sexual healing and stay slim & sexy by knowing which foods to combine. Whew- yes, all from this book.

This weekend I went through the book and at one point; set it down. My eight year old daughter picked up the book and started reading. After just 10 minutes of sitting with book in hand, she began telling me what I needed to do to help me feel better and stay looking pretty (isn’t she sweet?). Yes, even a child can read and be inspired by this book. I never once asked her to read this book, she just picked it up and began reading. The title must have grabbed her attention because, after reading 30 minutes, she began showing me some of the techniques she learned in order to help my kidneys, back and head. She even showed me how to rub my scalp to stimulate good hair growth- that felt very, very nice by the way!

Would I recommend this book- ABSOLUTELY. I feel that, by following these 60-second practices, each of us can help to live better, stronger and longer lives.

SURVIVE to THRIVE

Geier’s book, Survive to Thrive, will have you reevaluating your business structure, utilizing your own personal strengths (in a vide variety of situations) and give you the ability to listen as well as making yourself be heard.

In a nut-shell; Geier explains and recounts many situations throughout his career; situations that can ultimately help each of us do better as we travel through “Recession to Recovery”. He shares wonderful intellect on how we can sustain ourselves, our brands and our business as well as ways that we can “give back”.

After reading this book, I was able to take with me, ways to better my business (even though my business is simply blogging) because a part of my “job” is to market (both myself and others), advertise and help brand other companies. I understand now, that by putting clients and readers first, I’m building relationships and building long-term success.

From a fellow blogger- I recommend this book. I also recommend it to those that have developed a good business already, but would like to better their strategies in a more productive/ rewarding way; to those just starting out in marketing and/or to those that are thinking about developing some sort of business in the future. There are many great methods in this book for branding, promoting and marketing your business. I took a lot from this book and I know that you can too.

About the Author:

Throughout the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s; Geier and his Interpublic colleagues worked with clients ranging from Coca-Cola and Exxon to GM, L’Oreal and Nestle through a fast-changing world. In his 20 years as CEO, Geier grew Interpublic from revenues of $500 million and 8,000 employees to a truly global enterprise with 650 offices in 127 countries, revenues of $5.6 billion and 50,000 employees, making Interpublic the world’s #` agency holding company for many years. He is currently Chairman of The Geier Group, a New York-based marketing communications and venture capital firm that works with Lazard, small businesses and entrepreneurs. Geier serves as director on the boards of five non-profit and charitable organizations including Save the children, Autism Speaks and Memorial Sloan Kettering. 1. Do it or Age Quickly sounds like a very interesting book to read. As for the books I enjoy reading I would have to say mystery novels are my favorite. I have currently reading J.D. Robb’s Death series. I find my life to be really busy so I am listening to more and more of my books in audio format and I can listen to them while driving or going for my daily walks. Most books I read in the evening prior to going to sleep. Thanks for opportunity to win one of these books.

  7. I will pretty much read anything I can get my hands on other than those Harlequin Romance novels…I know tons of people like them but they are NOT my cup of tea…Currently I am working on the Looking Glass Wars series by Frank Beddor…wonder who turned me on to that series????? It’s very good, by the way. And I read during my daughter’s nap or before my bedtime….or whenever I can snatch a few minutes of solitude!

    • couldn’t tell ya ;)

      • I’m on the last one–the one I won from you guys, because of course I had to check the other two out at the library and read them first. They have GOT to make those books into movies! There’s a love story, a war, some kickbutt characters with awesome powers and weapons, and a really wicked woman with a dress made out of flesh eating roses! That just screams blockbuster hit movies to me….

  10. I read mainly the thriller and serial killer genre. I seriously need to get past it and delve into different story lines. Not fond of romances. I try to read while waiting in my car for my kids to get out of school.
