There are these huge tom cats that come strutting around our house. Recently it has been smelling something awful by the front door. I asked my husband what it was and he said those tom cats have sprayed our door frame with urine. Oh my goodness I can't event tell you the stench. I had an idea to stop it. My husband has a hand held garden sprayer. We put equal parts vinegar (to neutralize the order and I hope it would offend the cats), Cayenne Pepper (I bought 2 store brand shakers for 99 cents each) and water. We mixed it up and sprayed the whole front of the house. It took care of the urine and I have yet to see a cat (but it is snowing here. The stray dogs are a whole other story. My dad put up a fence around his garden & flower bed to try and keep them out. Those are some persistent cats! I have five outside cats so I have a little experience in this...I have found they don't care for the scent of rosemary--that's why I always plant some in my garden, and every once in a while sprinkle some clippings around my plants. They also sell natural cat repellents at garden centers. I've also found that adding a layer of pea gravel to the top of the soil deters them--cats naturally cover up their poop and the rocks make that more difficult. I would try the Pine Sol too, because it smells pretty strong, and maybe try even more mothballs, if you can stand THAT smell! It's better than the poop smell I guess. Moth balls aren’t working?
