We all had a Shrek of a weekend. I had all my nieces and nephews, my mother, my sisters and my brother-in-law in town. We ate at McDonald’s where their kid’s happy meals were filled with Shrek toys. We bought cereal, for our morning breakfasts, which had Shrek toys in them. My son (and Nephew’s) birthday cake was Shrek themed and we even watched Shrek movies at home. After they were all watched, my son and his girlfriend heading to watch Shrek forever after in theaters. It was a fun, fun weekend for everyone; including the adults! Seriously; you’d think we were all Shrek-ed out, but no…not in the least.
Yesterday, in the mail, I received the Shrek Forever After game for the XBox 360 console. I also received a Shrek forever after story book and a fun Shrek forever after activity book. The girls were thrilled. Of course, having three kids who all want to be told that one item is there’s completely- I did the motherly thing and gave the story book to the youngest, the activity book to Patience and gave the game to my CJ (his console). Everyone was happy and I had dibs on looking at and playing with everything first (ha-ha).
The Shrek game is amazing! I can’t remember the last time I had this much fun, solo, playing a game. The girls and I played from about 4pm till around 7. I let Patience and Piper play while I cooked dinner and then, once I put them to bed, I played by myself until my son got home from his “Birthday” date with his girlfriend. Once I went to bed; my son played the game till around midnight. I can honestly say that this game was a total hit for all of us. Tonight, my son and I plan on playing Shrek in two player mode- I can’t wait!!!
I love games like this. The ones where you go around hitting everything you see in order to gain coins, find hidden objects and battle the bad guys. Yeah, these are the best. I like them because, although the youngest doesn’t quite get what to do in the game, she can run around randomly; doing the things she sees bub and I doing and feel like she knows what she’s doing.
Shrek Forever After- The game can be purchased for the Wii, Nintendo DS, PlayStation3 or Xbox 360 platform and sells at Wal-Mart, GameStop, Toys-R-us, Best Buy, Target and Amazon. Prices vary (depending on where you buy) but, for review purpose, I went to Best Buy and saw it for $49.99; I went to Amazon and saw it for anywhere from $29.99 to $48.99 and I went to Wal-Mart and saw it there for $49.96 (+ you get a $10.00 E-Gift card with purchase: 1 per customer for a limited time). A little steep, maybe, but the game is so fun and can be played as a four player co-op game. It’s definitely worth the price for the game time you’d invest into it.
In this game, players can:
- Switch between Shrek’s world and his alternate reality.
- Players solve puzzles as Shrek, Fiona, Donkey and Puss in Boots.
- It’s for everyone 10+ for cartoon Violence comic mischief and mild lyrics.
- Play in single or cooperative multiplayer mode (up to four players)
- Game Released on May 18, 2010
Synopsis:
Longing for the day when he felt like a “real ogre”, Shrek is duped into signing a pact with the smooth-talking dealmaker, Rumpelstiltskin. Shrek suddenly finds himself in a twisted, alternate version of Far Far Away, where ogres are hunted, Rumpelstiltskin is king and Shrek and Fiona have never met. Now it’s up to Shrek (with the help of Fiona, Donkey and Puss in Boots) to undo all he’s done in the hopes of saving his friends, restoring his world and reclaiming his one True Love.
There’s so much you can do in this game already, but, Shrek this out! This game offers even more than that. If you do a level 2 upgrade, you’ll be able to access areas that, in the beginning, are inaccessible. Some of the things we are unable to do right now are: Shrek can’t open large chests and move crates that are stacked on top of each other. Donkey cant kick open golden locks yet, Fiona can’t burn wooden log piles and Puss in Boots cant jump across small gaps when climbing on walls. I figure this evening we’ll do what it takes to grab those level 2 upgrades so that CJ and I can have even more fun. At that point, we’ll be able to go back to all the things we missed the first time around. Of course, we’re saving the game so we won’t have to start at the beginning each time.
Overall thoughts:
I personally love this game. It’s fun, entertaining and easy to get caught up in. It’s a game I know we’ll be playing a lot throughout the summer. I’m planning to visit my Mother in San Antonio in the next few weeks and this is a game that won’t be left behind. If my kids and I had so much fun, I can only imagine how much my nieces and nephews will enjoy it- I’ll let you know!
