We Shopped the Goodwill Today
| May 16, 2010 | Posted by barb under Family |
Yes, I’m not afraid to say; I shop at the Goodwill!!! I can’t help it. Do you know how many treasures you can actually find at one of these stores? Tons I tell you- tons!!!
I’m weird though because I only shop on Sundays. For me, that’s when you get the best deals possible. Now granted, 7.65 is pretty decent for a lightly used pair of jeans (especially when they are of name brands). But on Sundays, awe yes, on Sundays; tags of a certain color (printed on a banner as you walk in the store) are only $.99 cents per item. That’s when I go crazy. Oh, but just so you know; I did donate quite a few pieces of clothing, some shoes and even some kids clothes before I went shopping. I feel good when I do this because not only am I supporting the Goodwill by purchasing items from their store; I also donate to the cause. I feel better when I do it that way.
I’m a jean-o-holic…I have umpteen pair of jeans in my closet and I wear every one of them. I obsess over the next great pair. As a result of my jean obsession; I fall short on the blouses and shirts. I always seem to forget that part of my wardrobe (LOL). I think I made up for it today. I purchased four blouses, one jacket (it was too nice to pass up for a dollar) and two pair of jeans. I also bought a brand new T-Fal pan which normally runs for $25.00, I paid a little over 10.00. It had to have been donated to the store by someone who had too many already. Maybe it was a wedding gift they didn’t particularly care for, I don’t know really but I was fortunate enough to find it and snatch it up. It was brand new. It still had the tags on it and everything…
If you’ve never actually shopped at a Goodwill store, you should try. If it’s not your thing, maybe shopping at their online store would be more convenient for you. If you didn’t know they had one, don’t worry, I didn’t either…but I do now and they’ve got some really amazing products there. Perfect for the frugal shopper in all of us. Check out this Hobo bag I saw online:
It’s pretty isn’t it? I’ve always wanted a bag like this and hobo’s are one of my favorite styles; not to mention that it’s an XOXO bag. This bag is priced at $17.99 (compared to a normal price of $46.00 everywhere else).
I found a few other items I want…like the sham mop and a rolodex book shelve. Oh, and a wallet to go with the bag above and a cool little milk shake maker (too cool!!). Let’s just say I’ve got my eyes on a lot of things in the online store.
Okay, so anyways…after the shopping adventure at the Goodwill; the kids, hub and I went to go check out some possible present ideas for my son since he will be turning 17 on the 24th. We also made a trip to the grocery store to select a cake that my son and nephew will be sharing next weekend. It was a busy day.
Well, I just thought I’d share a little bit on what the family and I did today. Oh yeah, I also cleaned my back patio- just so it looks pretty.
I hope you guys have a wonderful Sunday evening (what’s left of it). If you feel like sharing your day with me, I’d love to read about it, who knows, maybe you’ll give someone a great idea for their next weekend adventure.
Talk to you soon!!!
Disclosure: This post was not sponsored by anyone. I did do these things I wrote about and thought I’d share them with you. The picture above is an affiliated link. I found out about their affiliated program while writing this post, so I thought I’d add this in hopes of making a few pennies for my time. I do want that bag though!!! Thanks for reading.

Being a good steward of our money is important if more familes and companies would practice this we would all be much better off. Great post and very wise!

As always, thanks so much for your comment Steve. I always look forward to reading what you have to say.
I feel better, about myself, when I’ve shopped at a Goodwill. For one, I feel like I’m paying it forward. Even if it’s not a lot, I feel that every little bit counts. My girls feel good about donating their old clothes too. And most times, it’s clothes that we’ve bought them that they ended up not really caring for anyways. Most of them are in near perfect shape too.
What I bought today was nice…and I can guarentee I’ll be there again next Sunday, trying to find that next pair of must have jeans.
I didn’t know they had an online store either! I will have to check that out.
It was a dirty job but somebody had to do it!
We donate to a local organization that does the same thing as Goodwill. I hate to throw something away that I am finished with knowing that someone else could get a lot of use out of it.
I cleaned my garage this weekend
I shop Goodwill too!
Only I call it GW & Co!
