The girls and I watched a manners show, on DVD, with manners expert Elise McVeigh and her wacky and fun assistant, Professor “Mannered”. Through funny jokes and characterized skits; the duo taught the girls how to politely introduce themselves, how to use the right utensils while at the table, how to properly address others and so much more.

The girls thought Professor “Mannered” was hilarious and that the kids in the audience were so lucky- to be there, learning from Elise McVeigh…especially when I told them that she was from Dallas Texas.

Dad heard the show, while we were watching it, and asked what it was. When we told him, he looked at the girls and said, “Isn’t that what we just talked about the other day?” Hub told me that they weren’t being very behaved when I was in Chicago and that he had to explain to them that what they were doing and how they were acting was not nice and that he was going to send them to a “manners school” if they didn’t straighten up (LOL- I could only imagine…ha-ha). Dad must have been frustrated, because he always raves about how “awesome” they are when I’m not around…LOL!!!

Anyway, getting off topic here. My point is, it was a good show. The girls enjoyed it and dad laughed when I told him the DVD was on my desk the whole time I was out of town.

About Mrs. McVeigh:

Elise McVeigh’s background is multi- faceted. A mass communication major at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth, Texas, she started her professional career as the managing editor of a Fort Worth newspaper, The Texas Times. She then worked as a copyeditor for Practitioners Publishing Company. While working, Elise found a passion for volunteer work, and went into the non-profit field as a fundraiser. McVeigh spent most of her non-profit career with the American Cancer Society, and then worked for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, and left after having her first son. After son number three, McVeigh pursued her passion as a speaker, and found Elise McVeigh’s Life Camp. Elise has also returned to newspaper writing, as a weekly guest columnist for The Dallas Morning News Neighborsgo, where thousands read her advice on manners and getting organized.

Final thoughts:

I liked it, a lot. I was impressed by how the girls reacted, how they tuned into the show entirely, how they laughed at Professor Mannered, and how they asked to watch it again. When asked if there was anything they didn’t like about the show- their answer, “too short”…that’s it. Aside from the show being ‘too short’ for the girls, I enjoyed it and felt it brought a lot to ‘the table’. Definitely a worthy purchase and one that can help create a well mannered child, or improve the manners of an already well mannered child.
