Reading Rainbow Now On iTunes (FREE APP)

by barb on July 24, 2012

Quick question for you…

Can you say “Reading Rainbow” without first singing it in tune? Is that even remotely possible?

Well it’s time to brace yourself Mom (and Dad)…for LeVar Burton is now on a new Reading Rainbow reading App that – I think – is out of this world! And the best part – it’s FREE!!!

There are literally hundreds of curated books, customized for your child, based on your child’s likes, and suited for your child’s age group. There are countless video field trips that connect the story your child reads (or is read to) to the world we live in. And above all – the very special, one and only – LeVar Burton is the featured host of this App just as he is in the beloved PBS TV Show…Reading Rainbow.

I downloaded the free APP for Reading Rainbow, to try it out, and I (along with the girls) love it so much that I now plan to purchase the monthly membership (a recurring charge of just $9.99 – the price of a book) to make sure my girls have an unlimited supply of books at their virtual fingertips. It truly is a great App people.

It says in the description of this APP that it’s a new reading adventure app for kids ages 3 – 9 but I can assure you that children older than that (like Patience who will be 11 soon) who love reading will still appreciate and enjoy an app such as this one.

Key Features for this App are:

~ there are 150 interactive books; frequently updated and expanding the library

~ Recommendations customized to your child

~ 16 video field trips and more to come

~ Interactive activities in every book

~ Reward program to motivate reading

~ Parent dashboard to share a child’s reading progress

How it works:

~ Reading Rainbow is a library service of interactive books, videos and more

~ All app users may select a single book and view introductory videos for free

~ Offering a subscription to receive unlimited access to the library and can choose either monthly or ever six months.

If you have a child who loves to read and you own an iPad, I do encourage you to take a peak at this app. It’s great for kids who love to read and can definitely motivate those who don’t. I personally love this app, as do the girls, and we recommend it!

Disclosure: I was provided with a 1 month free subscription to the Reading Rainbow App, as a thank you for participating in this review, however. My thoughts, opinions and/or testimonials expressed on this post are solely my own (and my kids).
