Oh my gosh; I seriously cannot believe that the start of another school year is upon us; just two weeks away for us. It seems like we hardly had a summer at all. It flew by far too fast if you ask me.
The single most important part of preparing my kids for their return to school – long before shopping for the “cool stuff” begins – is to get the girls on a better-than-awesome bed-time schedule. Once this has been established, it’s time to shop till we drop.
Sadly though, not everyone out there is able to shop and prepare for their child’s first day of school. Buying clothes, shoes, school supplies and school extras can be pretty tough on some families.
And here’s how our shopping can help a child in need…
The Boys and Girls Club of America (BGCS) and Disney have partnered to launch the Tools For Back-To-School initiative. The initiative – A fun pop-quiz style game, on the official BGCS website , where supplies are donated to BGCA for every correct answer you score. Sounds fun right? But that’s not all they’re doing…
from June 26th thru Sept. 7th, with every specially-marked backpack purchased at the Disney store, the store will turn around and donate school supply kits to BGCA, which are then given to Club youth, for distributing kids to kids in need.
BGCA has also partnered with JCPenney in the August JCP Cares program where your purchase at the register benefits the BGCA.
Each month JCP teams up with a cause in order to help make a difference in our communities. This month they’ve teamed with BGCA and 4-H to help inspire and empower kids across the country.
Now for those of us who still need to ‘Get Ready’ for school, the BGCA website offers different educational content and tip sheets to help parents and their kids get ready for school. I took a peak at some of the tip sheets myself and realized, the Time Management Tips sheet, yeah…that was definitely written with the hopes that I’d read it, especially the one about establishing daily routines . LOL! I’m serious.
In sum – there’s lots of great content at the BGCA website, I encourage you to take a peak. I’m definitely shopping JCPenney for most all of Patience and Piper’s Back-To-School clothes…and last but not least, I’m definitely hitting the Disney store for those specially-marked backpacks.
