Being A #KotexMom has been Awesome

Getting your period- it’s actually the worst part about being a girl…but luckily it’s not the only thing. Girls get to wear makeup, shop for shoes and wear the prettiest outfits.

I’ve been discussing the “P” word with Patience and Piper, for a few months now, and though they’re not excited about the day this period-thing decides to show its not-so-pretty face, they’re both pretty confident that they can handle whatever comes their way. Besides, it’s not like they’re the only girls in the world to have to deal with it. They’ve got each other.

The biggest (and probably only) fear Patience has is not-knowing when it’s going to creep up on her…and where. She’s so scared that she’ll be at school the day it decides to pop up and visit, and that the whole school will know it happened.

Before school started, I received two very cute, discrete “makeup/spa” bags for the girls. These bags had a few small items, like a fold out brush, lip balm, etc.. I added a few pads to the bags and gave them as just-because gifts to the girls. That turned out to be the single most appreciated gift I’ve given them in a long time. The conversation about what signs to look out for helped a lot too.

If you’re having a hard time trying to figure out just how to start the “Period” conversation with your daughter (or daughters); visit U By Kotex/tween for lots of tips and topics to help you break the ice between you and your daughter/s.

The one thing I’ve learned since becoming a Kotex Mom Ambassador is that girls will listen…they won’t even be embarrassed about the topic, so long as you don’t show fear or embarrassment first. I’ve noticed – through my girls – that if they see that you’re opened to talk about anything with them and that there’s no reason to fear it, they won’t be afraid. They might even be more likely to spark conversations about this change, with you, on their own.

It really has been awesome being a Kotex Mom! My girls seem to be pretty proud of me.

Disclosure: I wrote this review while participating in a Brand Ambassador Campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of U by Kotex Tween and received products to facilitate my post and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate
