I did. I survived. And I liked!
I just completed my Skype only 7-day Challenge. I have to admit though – I had a tough time in the beginning (hints the reason for my “first” attempt on September 2). It was a little challenging at first (forgetting to use Skype instead of the norm) but by the last half of my second attempt at this challenge I’d figured it out and was able to communicate with everyone with no problems. I’m actually still using Skype, but not as a challenge – rather…a choice.
Some of the ways Skype was used during my 7-day challenge:
~ Sent a gazillion text messages to John, my mother, a few of my friends, and CJ – using Skype (this is the way I communicate most of all – always)
~ Had video chats with my mother (while having coffee) almost every morning during the work week.
~ Used my Skype-to-phone feature to call and set up an eye exam for the girls this upcoming weekend and to set up an appointment for Jäger’s 3rd set of shots for the weekend after that.
~ Even answered a few Skype calls from mom – when I was out and about with the hub and kids.
My Favorite Feature:
I absolutely love using Skype on the TelyHD TV cam. It was most fun in the mornings; to be able to have coffee with mom even though we’re over 300 miles away.
My Not-So-Favorite Feature:
By no fault of Skype…I hate not having an iPhone 4 or 4S (I have a measly 3G), hate not having an iPad2 (I have the 1st/ with no webcam) and I absolutely hate not having a webcam on my computer; this made things difficult.
Sure, I was still able to use Skype, and I was able to see everyone on the other end of the call, only no one was able to see me because I only have a cam on the TV (this might actually be a good thing).
Final Thoughts:
My family and I will definitely continue to use Skype as a form of communications. Its super fun and I love seeing how happy my mom is using it. That’s been the best part of the whole experience using Skype.
About Skype:
Disclosure: The Skype only 7-day challenge is brought to you by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Skype. I received product to assist me with this challenge. All thoughts, opinions and/or testimonials expressed on this post are solely my own.

my big guy skype’s all the time with his online gaming buddies.. when he first started doing it.. I thought he was talking to himself. I need to get in on this.. sounds like a lot of fun.
Oh Karen, it’s awesome!! I love skyping with my son and mother most of all (shhhh- I thought the same thing too, before my son introduced me to skype).
The free service – honestly – is just a great; the only difference for me is that there’s no commitment with the free version.
