Piper has chronic UTIs. She’s had this issue since before she could walk; just recently though, these infections have become a real nuisance.
Most recently – December 24th – she was diagnosed with a pretty bad UTI. She was put on strong antibiotics for 10 days. And then – just 3 days after she finished taking her last dose – she drops down in pain again (yesterday). I have a prescription for peridium (takes the pain away within 10 minutes, in even the worst cases) so I gave her a dose to calm the pain until this morning.
We went straight to the doctors this morning to learn that it was back and even stronger than last time. The doctor was amazed to see her history (more than a dozen UTIs a year) and said we needed to do something before the situation got any worse, so we made a game plan.
She had a culture done today (for sensitivities) – we’ll know what’s going on within 24 hours. In 10 days we go back to the doctor so that they could put her on some sort of daily medicine and they’re also sending us out to a specialist to see if there are any treatment options for her at this time.
For now, all we can do is keep her comfortable and free of pain.
Do you know someone with chronic UTIs? Do you (or they) have any advice to share? If so I’d really-really appreciate it. I just hate seeing my baby go through this much pain.
