Tips on Sweeping

I’ve been receiving messages from readers that would like to know a little more about how to do it and where to look when it comes to sweeping. I’ve also been asked for a few pointers on easy ways to get started.

Although I can only tell you how I do it and what I’ve done, I figured this would be quite an interesting personal “how-to” post. So, for those just starting out or those who are interested in how I do things.  These are a few steps I can offer that have helped me.

1.       First and foremost; you are going to need a separate email just for sweeping. The reason this is so important is that you’ll want to keep track of your email confirmations (in some cases), entries, wins and whatever else you might want to watch for without  interfering with your regular email deliveries.

2.       Once you’ve set up your email, make a few files in your inbox folder (wins, confirmations, daily entries (I have this one for daily reminders of sweepstakes I can enter daily), etc…)

3.       Buy yourself a little spiral notebook or journal (my personal preference) from your local store (or you can set up a word document to jot down all your wins). Be sure to include a few columns for later views. Normally I have Date, Prize, site, value.

4.       You might also (as I’ve done) want to invest in RoboForm. RoboForm is a very safe and private protected password/username program. It also saves your mailing address and other information if you’d like. They offer a free version, but I would opt into the paid since it gives you unlimited options. I use RoboForm because there are times that I enter 100’s of sweepstakes in a day and I don’t want to have to manually enter my name, mailing address, zip and everything else. I click on the site, click RoboForm and I’m done.

5.       Once you’ve begun entering all those great giveaways, be prepared to check email regularly and daily. You wouldn’t want to miss a deadline to claim a prize because you’re not one for checking your email enough. Trust me; it has happened to the best of us. It’s happened to meL.

Now, if you are also interested in blog giveaways (which I happen to post a majority of) you may need to also consider signing up for a blog of your own too. Either through Google or WordPress…there are others I’m sure, but those are the ones that I am most aware of. The reason I say this is for the purpose of extra entries. Most blogs allow you to post a comment for 1 entry, but they do ask that you blog about their contest on your blog and link back to them for extra entries.

I hope that one or all of these tips will help you become more successful in your sweeping ventures, but if I’ve missed any tips that you know has helped you, please feel free to add to it.
